Introduction

John and Shirley Street

Sometimes we feel we are going nowhere. Everything seems dissatisfying and deep down we wonder if we have turned away from God, His Word and His Will.  At such times let us stop and seek His guidance. He is always there to show us The Way.

                                                                                           Shirley Street

The inspiration came for this book as John and I were out walking and making our way home. We took what we thought was a short cut thro’ a housing estate.

As we walked we discovered that the road was barred by big, locked wrought iron gates! We had to retrace our steps and even paths leading off from the road were barred by gates that were locked!

As we walked home we talked about this. It made us realize that our spiritual walk can be affected in a similar way.  We trust this book will be an encouragement to all those who feel they are travelling on Roads to Nowhere.  Take courage, retrace your steps and travel down the right road, The Road to Somewhere -  The Royal Highway.

The
Road
 to
 Somewhere

A NEW WAY

If you sin
And miss the mark
There is for you
A brand new start.

You don’t have to wallow
In distress and sorrow
You don’t have to stay in your sins
You can drop them and win!

You can leave them and find rest
You can be greatly blessed
BUT
First of all you must confess
(This can be a difficult test).

Ask for forgiveness
And turn away
In your sin you don’t have to stay.

Jesus wipes the slate clean
And then the way is clear
For all sin to disappear.

A new to-day
A new tomorrow
Away with all the sorrow.
You can have a new start
And God can give you a new heart.

A NEW WORLD

I was eager
I was keen
I wanted to see
A new world begin.

A new world
Where injustice ceased
And a world
That was at peace.

I saw unfairness
Suffering and pain
Few in this life
Had much to gain!

Poverty
Corruption
And much more
Who would care for the poor?

I was angry
I was cross
I wanted to fight
I wanted to put right!

Many promised
They said they knew
What to do.
I followed
But it wasn’t true.

Leaders, politicians, action groups
Told of their plans
And made their stands
BUT
Injustice increased
There still wasn’t peace
And
The poor didn’t decrease!
Oh for a new world!

It wasn’t until
Someone spoke to me
About Jesus
And the cross of Calvary
It was then that I realized
There was another way
And peace in my heart
Came to stay.

Only Jesus
Could make the changes
Only Jesus
Could set us free
And, of course,
He started with me!

There is much to attract
Much to distract
We are looking for satisfaction.

We turn this way and that
In a bid to fulfil
And to escape from all ills!

We don’t settle down
Life is one long round
Of wishing and wanting!

There is much to attract
Much to distract
We are looking for satisfaction!

We seek peace
BUT
Our worries don’t cease
We’re still looking for satisfaction.

We seem to go back
There’s something we lack.
We never reach our goal
Life takes its toll.

Frustrations abound
Nothing seems sound.
How can life change?
We’re walking on uneven ground!

We’ve tried to make life easier
But it has become sleazier!
There is much to attract
Much to distract.

We’re hungry for more
We don’t want less
Our lives are a mess
And we aren’t blessed.

Let’s stop
Count the cost
And admit we’re lost.
We daren’t go forward
We daren’t go back
What is it we lack?
It’s Jesus.

ATTRACTION AND DISTRACTION

You bless me
May I bless.

You care
May I care.

You show mercy
May I show mercy.

Your compassion
Never fails.

May my compassion
Never fail.

Of myself
I don’t bless
Don’t care
Don’t show mercy
Am not compassionate.

It’s You
Only You that will make me
A blessing
Loving
Caring
Merciful
And
Compassionate.

BLESSINGS RECEIVED AND GIVEN

CHANGE

There is a stirring
Deep in my heart
I want for myself
A brand new start.

I’ve wasted many years
And shed many tears
I’ve sought to gain
But it’s caused much pain.

There is a stirring
Deep in my heart
I want for myself
A brand new start.

Changes will come
When I look to God
And His Son.
Away with my pride
Please, please stop the slide.

I have been wrong
For peace I long.
There is another way
Upon a destructive path
I don’t have to stay.

THE CHOICE IS MINE

CLEAR THE WAY

The way must be cleared
We just can’t steer
Around the rocks and rubble.

All that would impede
Stopping our speed
Will cause us much trouble.

In our life are many obstructions
Which can lead to corruption.
Be led by the Spirit
Who reveals our faults
And slowly we will be taught.

He will show us which way to go
He will guide us thro’
Our highs and lows.
He will show us
Much to delight
And spiritually
We can ascend
To great heights.

The Holy Spirit is Counsellor and Friend
And will walk with us until the end.
He’ll point out problems that may arise
Giving guidance and making us wise
Strength will come and confidence to cope
Filling us with courage and hope.

DEAD ENDS

Dead ends
Cul-de-sacs
Call them what you may
Makes me realize
I have lost my way.

Hours of progress
Then I find to my dismay
I have travelled
Down the wrong way.

Time passes by
And I ask, “why?”
The right path I have missed
But it’s not my fault I insist.

The road seemed right
I was positive in my mind
But suddenly the path
Began to wind
And I couldn’t find
Where I was going.

My path was barred
By a locked gate
This meant I had to wait!
No way could I carry on
I wondered what was beyond?

As I turned back
I realized I’d been slack
Concerning the way to go
This had made my journey slow.

Back to the crossroads
Retracing my steps
I sat down and violently wept.
After a while
I wiped away my tears
And disregarded the fears.

At least
I could start again.
And this greatly eased the pain.

DEVOTED TO YOU

Passion
Praise
A life of commitment
Devoted to You.

Devoted to You
To-day
Tomorrow
And always.

Always
Seeking
Serving
Looking to You.

Looking to You
My Lord
My Saviour
And Friend.

DON’T BE DISTRACTED

Don’t be distracted
Don’t be attracted
To tinsel and bright lights.

It looks exciting
And inviting
BUT
It’s not The Light.

Jesus is our Light
And what a glorious sight
He is to behold.
Of Him in the Bible
We are told.

He came for those
Who were distracted
Who were attracted
To tinsel and bright lights.

He came to show us
Another way.
He taught us
How to worship and pray
Satisfying and uplifting the soul
Healing our bodies
And making us whole.

So don’t be distracted
Don’t be attracted
To tinsel and bright lights.

ESTABLISH MY STEPS

Oh Lord
Establish my steps
And may Your Word
Direct them.

Oh Lord
Let Your Word
Be a lamp to my feet
And a Light to my path.

Oh Lord
When I walk
Shield me from danger
Protect me from traps.

Oh Lord
The love of Your Word
Brings me peace.
Nothing shall offend
Or make me stumble.

Oh Lord
You will not allow
My foot to slip
Or be moved.

You will keep me
From all evil.
You will keep
 My life secure.

Oh Lord
You will keep
My going out
And
My coming in
To-day
Tomorrow
And forever.

GET BACK ON THE RIGHT TRACK

If we think
We’re better than others
We’re not on The Royal Highway!

Our peace disappears
Our fears reappear
What can we do?

If we’re proud
And puffed up
We’re not on The Royal Highway!

Our peace disappears
Our fears reappear
What can we do?

If we become angry
Cross
And critical
We’re not on The Royal Highway!

Our peace disappears
Our fears reappear
What can we do?

To get back
On the right track
We need
To put ourselves right.
We need to have
The Heavenly Vision in our sight.

Say sorry to God
Say sorry to those we hurt.
We must feel sorry
Deep in our heart
This brings us back
On the right track.

Our peace reappears
And our fears disappear.

GOD AND MAN

If we walk with God
We must walk with others
Along The Royal Highway.

If we pray to God
We must pray for others
As we walk The Royal Highway.

If we go the extra mile for God
We must go the extra mile for others
As we walk The Royal Highway.

If we seek forgiveness from God
We must seek forgiveness from others
As we walk The Royal Highway.

GOD’S HIGHWAY

Don’t take the roads to nowhere
Take the Road to Somewhere.
This is the road that leads to God
This is the road that really costs!

Don’t take a chance
Holding a stubborn stance!
The years will pass by
In the twinkling of an eye.

The Road to Somewhere
Leads to the Cross
It will lead to loss!
Loss of burdens
Loss of sins
And Eternal Life to win.

The road is hard
The road is long
And
Our eyes become open to sin.

We become sensitive
And it’s painful to see
The suffering
The pain
And the agony.

Yet
We are free
Free as birds.
God’s Word
We have heard.

We have listened
And obeyed
And now walk
God’s Highway.

GOING ALONG WITH THE CROWD

It can be easy to just go along
Even when we realise
We sing a different song.
We don’t really find ourselves at ease
But if we don’t go
We shall be teased.

The badgering and persuading
Makes us feel weak
We try to put off the outing
Until at least another week.
Instead of just refusing to go
We aren’t brave enough to say “no!”

It makes us feel
We have failed the test.
We even consider our friends as pests!
Why did we take the easy way out?
Maybe one day we’ll have the courage to shout
“No.”

Drink after drink
Consumed in a hurry
Makes us forget all our worries.
The music is deafeningly loud
But who cares
We’re going along with the crowd!

There is a new start for us all
We can walk and stand tall
But we need to turn our lives around
Making sure our feet are on solid ground.

Turn away from our old life style
Pull aside for a while.
The way we’re going
Can lead to a great deal of pain
And from this, what can we gain?

Make a decision
Be positive and true
Realize that going along with the crowd
Can deeply affect us all.

 We can choose
Which way to go.
The choice is ours
Let’s not be slow.

The broad or narrow path
Is there to see
BUT
As for me
My choice is clear
Towards The lord
I will steer.
THE NARROW WAY.

I CAN’T SEEM TO WIN

I can’t seem to win
My life’s full of sin
Whichever way I turn
I can’t seem to learn
From my mistakes!

Tranquillity and peace
Have eluded me
I just can’t see.
Nothing has turned out right
My life’s without light.

The road ahead is hazy
I feel too lazy
What shall I do?

The years pass by
Inside I sigh
BUT
The future can be hopeful
I don’t have to lose
I can choose
To turn away from misery.

I can look to Jesus
Lord, Saviour and Friend.
If I allow
He’ll be with me until the end.

No longer will I be lost
My life will be complete.
My stubbornness and pride
No longer will reside
I will be renewed.

I will seek
Your face.
I will seek
Your grace.
May Your face
Shine upon me.

You will guide
Protect
And
Safely keep me.
You alone
Will I seek.

I shall seek
I shall find.
I won’t be left behind!
Your arms
You’ll open wide.

I WILL SEEK

IT’S HARD BUT…

Lord,
You teach me gently
And
So may I be gentle.

Lord,
You tell me
In a loving way.
You don’t shout
And
So may I
Tell others lovingly
Without shouting.

Lord,
You care for me
And help me
So may I care
And help others.

Lord,
It’s hard
And I fail
Miserably
BUT
You give me
The grace
And strength.

Lord,
Each morning
You give me a new day.
Help me
To show Your grace
Strength
And Your Way.

This country has lost its way
We don’t pray
We won’t obey
Your laws Lord.

Our leaders have lost their way
They don’t pray
They won’t obey
Your laws Lord.

Why have we come to this place?
What has happened to the human race?
We don’t pray
We won’t obey
Your laws Lord.

We have fallen short
We have forgotten
All that we’ve been taught.
We have lost our way.

Please, please, help us
To stop this slide.
Give us peace and respect
Deep inside.

Help us
To humble ourselves
And pray
Also
To obey
Your laws Lord.

LOST

MERCY

I can see in this life
How Your mercy flows
It touches lives
It gives strength and revives.

Your goodness and mercy
Shall follow me
All day, every day
And
In Your Presence
I will stay.

Your mercy
Touches cold
Hard hearts
And
Those who won’t depart
From their sinful ways.

Oh compassionate
All loving God.

POWER AND WEALTH

The road to power and riches
Can lead me to fall into ditches.
They can destroy my soul
They will not make me whole.

Power and wealth can bring sorrow
What will it bring me tomorrow?
Much heartache and floods of tears
Power and wealth won’t allay fears.

I can be ousted from power
And my life can turn sour.
My money can be stolen or lost
And I will pay a high cost.

In God’s Kingdom I should invest
But for me this can be a great test.
The dividends will bring joy and peace
And all my insecurities will cease.

Invest in God’s Word
Invest in the poor
Invest in His Kingdom
And much more.

PRECIOUS WORDS

Lost, not knowing which way to go
My walk in this life seemed
Extremely slow.
How could I find the right path?
My life for years had been one big laugh.

Suddenly I felt a deep depression
A feeling of utter sadness
And rejection.
Inside I was utterly void of expression!

How could I face my Maker?
All my life I’d been a taker.
I’d wanted more
I wouldn’t accept less
Nothing I did seemed to bless.

What could I do?
What could I say?
Nothing seemed
To take the anxiety away.

One day as I sat on a train
Feeling a real deep sense of pain
I looked up and before my eyes I saw
Precious words for those spiritually poor.

That was the beginning
Of a change inside
Those words sunk deep
And to-day still reside.

No longer do I consider myself lost
Going thro’ life not counting the cost.
The words I read on the advertising board
To my soul had called.

“Come unto me, all ye
that labour and are heavy
laden, and I will give you rest.”
St Matthew. 1l:28

Weary and heavy laden
To Jesus I came
No longer
Am I the same.

PURPOSE

I have experienced delays
As I’ve travelled The Highway.
Tiredness and illness
Made me want to rest
And at such times
I’ve become stressed.

Problems, rejection
Led me to despair
And made me doubt
That You were there.

I had great plans
I’d much to do
I felt in myself
I’d disappointed You.

I mistakenly believed
That rushing here and there
Never being still
Meant I was busy
Obeying Your will.

As I became older
And couldn’t do so much
I’ve allowed You to show me
Your gentle touch.

When my energy levels were nil
And I felt extremely ill
I can foolishly remember thinking
My life was incomplete
And I felt I’d been designated
To a rubbish heap!

BUT

God showed in many ways
That He’d not left
He had stayed to comfort and bless
As thro’ illness I was forced to rest.

Much encouragement I received
No longer did I believe
That I had no purpose or use
Even if my energy levels were reduced.
God was in control!

REVIVED AND RESTORED

I saw my sins
I saw my faults
They were a heavy load
As I walked life’s road.

What to do
I did not know
My journey
Was indeed slow.

My burdens were heavy
I couldn’t keep myself steady
Nothing seemed to help
Deep inside anguish I felt.

At the crossroads
There I sat
Still carrying
A heavy load
On my back.

I was fed up
Nothing seemed right
I hated myself
Day and night.

I was a failure
Everyone could see
But first of all
Especially me.

What could I do?
Nothing was right
Who would help me
Win this fight?

There was a battle
Deep down in my soul
I was rattled
I wanted to be made whole.

Then I remembered
Thoughts flooded thro’ my head
As a child before I went to bed
My prayers I had always said.

I remembered also
Being in a Nativity Play,
I remembered
Being told about The Way.

Thoughts rushed in
I felt a warmth inside
I wanted that feeling
To constantly reside.

At the crossroads
The heavy load was taken
A miracle took place
I wasn’t mistaken.

I came to Jesus
I came to the cross
I asked for forgiveness
My sins I lost.

They were taken away
Remembered no more
No longer in my spirit
Was I poor.

I was free from my sins
Jesus came my soul to win
I accepted this precious gift
No longer was there a rift.

I was restored, forgiven and free
This is what Jesus did for me!

RIGHT DECISIONS

True and false
Right and wrong
Can make our journey
In this life long.

We sometimes
Can’t distinguish
Between the two
And our judgment
We begin to lose.

We’re doubtful
Hesitant
We’re afraid to move
Our confidence
We begin to lose.

 At such times
A map we need
Wise instructions
We should heed.

The Bible is the map
We need to take
It’ll help us to make
The way clear.

It’s our guide
It’ll show us the way
And
Encourage us
On the right path to stay.

ROADS TO NOWHERE

Roads to nowhere
Does anyone care?
Following each other
No matter where.

Shut ears, shut eyes, shut minds
The True Path
They can’t or won’t find.

There’s only one road
There’s only one path
Seek the True Way
And on that path stay.

Open your ears
Open your eyes
Open your minds
The True Path
You can find

JESUS.

STEADY ME

Oh Lord
Keep me
Teach me
Lead me

Oh Lord
Strengthen
Lengthen
My days

Oh Lord
Touch me
Uplift me
Steady me

Oh Lord
Your face
I will seek
Your Way
I will seek
Help Me Lord
I’m weak

STRAIGHT ON

Don’t turn left or right
Don’t walk in the dark
Walk in the light.

Don’t be diverted
From the right track
Ask God for wisdom
If you lack.

He is your Light
He is your might
He will guide you
 Day and night.

He will keep you
Stay close to Him.
Don’t turn left or right
Continue to walk
In the light.

TEMPTED

When we feel lost we can find to our cost
We are tempted to follow unknown paths
Seeking peace that cannot last.

Tempted
Because we are feeling depressed
Tempted
Because we are lonely and unblessed.
Tempted
Because we are fed up and lost
But remember we can pay a high cost!

Tempted
To take the easy way out
Tempted
God’s laws to flout.
Tempted
To go along with the crowd
Tempted
To listen to the loud.

Jesus is The Way
And upon His pathway
We should stay.
Other ways seem exciting and fun
But don’t ignore The Holy One.

Bright lights, loud music, drinks galore
Can just be a ploy.
Stop, think, this could be a trap
Look once again at your map.

The Words in the Bible
Are profound
The wisdom there
Is very sound.

Given to us
To show the way
Helping us
On His path to stay.

THE CALVARY ROAD

The road of sorrow
The road of pain
But at the end
Salvation to gain.

The road of loneliness
The road of despair
They mocked and whipped Him
They didn’t care.

Brutally beaten, knocked to the ground
Jesus took the torture without a sound
The Calvary Road.

Agony, desertion
The road of sorrow
The road of pain
But at the end
Salvation we gained!

Jesus walked The Calvary Road
No greater love could be bestowed.
For our sins He died to set us free.
He walked The Calvary Road
For you and me.

THE COST

Many have been imprisoned
Locked away
Because they dared to speak
And show another way.

Taken from their families
Taken from their friends
Not knowing when their lives
Would come to an end!

What was the crime?
What was the offence?
They spoke and showed
How much Jesus meant.

Starved, beaten
Abused in many ways
For their crime
They deeply paid.

Not allowed their freedom
Not allowed to speak
The beatings and starvation
Made them weak.

Many have died
Trying to show another way
They’ve joined the martyrs
Of yesterday.

They followed the Lord
They heard His call
They walked The Highway
And didn’t give up
At the Lord’s table they will sup.

THE DETOUR

Everything seems to be coming together
All the storms we seem to weather
And suddenly to our dismay
There is a barrier in the way!

We can’t go forward
We don’t want to go back
What can we do
The incentive we lack?

We’ve invested our time
We’ve made big plans
We’ve moved on from our past
We thought we were on the right path at last!

A detour can be upsetting
And cause us to create
Thinking we’re going to be late
But we don’t know the reasons
Everything has its seasons!
Take heart God knows what He’s about.

THE EASY WAY OUT

Do I take any path?
Do I just want a laugh?
An easy life
Trouble free
Is this the answer for me?

I don’t want any tears
I don’t want any fears
The easy option is my delight
I don’t want a fight.

I’d rather not bother
I’d like to look the other way
In my comfortable life
I want to stay
BUT
The easy option
Is not God’s Way
Help me Lord I pray.

THE GREATEST EXAMPLE

The “I” must die the “I” must go
Oh Lord, don’t let me be slow
To banish those things from my life
That entangle and mangle
My spiritual life.

The greatest example
I can follow
Is You Lord.

The pride and selfishness must go.
Don’t let me be slow to come to You.
To confess my sins
So that a new life can begin.

The greatest example
I can follow
Is You Lord.

You are The Lamb of God
You are The Living Christ.
Your blood flowed upon that tree
So that I might be free.

You showed me Your serving heart
An example I must start.
You turned the other cheek
You lifted up those who were weak.

The greatest example
I can follow
Is You Lord,

You had a servant’s heart
You served Your Father from the start.
You willingly gave up Your rights
Your Heavenly Father was Your delight.

The greatest example
I can follow
Is You Lord.

THE JOURNEY

Forward
Onward
Ever seeking.

Never turning
Never leaving
The Royal Highway.

Rest
Refresh
Restore.

Hope
Faith
Joy
And much more.

Forward
Onward
Ever seeking.

The journey
Takes a lifetime.
It’s hard
It’s tough
And often rough
BUT
Forward
Onward
Ever seeking
Never turning
Never leaving
The Royal Highway.

THE JOURNEY’S END

Like a bird
That falls to the ground
Its life comes to an end
Without a sound.

Like a flower
That droops and dies
The petals drop
And on the ground lie.

So too,
This life comes to an end.
When the journey is complete
The Lord will keep
Those who loved Him.

He will keep
Those whose hearts
Were warm
Who looked to God
And accepted His Son.

Consider therefore
The journey’s end
And mistakes mend.
Our journey
Can be short or long
BUT
To Him we want to belong.

We must change direction
If we go wrong
And in our hearts
For Him long.
Remember the journey’s end!

THE MAZE

Life is like a maze
There are many, many ways
Frustration, tiredness and cares
Leave us in utter despair.

Time passes by we rush to and fro
The harder we try
We still don’t know
Which way to go!

Panic and fear take hold
It’s like being left out in the cold.
There’s a crisis deep inside
No peace seems to reside.

Jesus is The Way
He will show us
He will guide us
Thro’ the maze.

THE ROAD TO SOMEWHERE

Of what road do I talk?
Which road will we walk?
There’s only one way
That leads to success
There’s only one way
That will bless.

Call it what you may
The Narrow
Or
The Royal Highway
It’s the only path
We should follow
Don’t settle for less
Or it will bring sorrow.

We may feel
We couldn’t care less
But it’s not now
That we will feel stressed.
It’s later when before God
We stand
Will we enter the Promised Land?

THE ROYAL HIGHWAY

No twists
No turns
It’s straight
It’s narrow
The Royal Highway.

Not for the unclean
But for the redeemed
The Royal Highway.

No lion shall be there
Nor ravenous beast
On The Royal Highway.

At the journey’s end
No sorrow
Nor crying
BUT
Everlasting joy.

THE ROYAL PROCLAMATION

 Prepare
Declare
The Way of the Lord
Make straight
Make smooth
And His glory
Shall be revealed.

All shall see
Acknowledge
The Salvation of the Lord.

His Majesty
His power
His compassion
His grace
Can fill any place.

Prepare
Declare
The Way of The Lord.

THE PROMISED LAND

The Lord will be your rear guard.
You will call and He will hear.
He is not far away.

The Lord
Will strengthen your bones
And satisfy your thirsty soul.
He will make you whole.

Take heed He will lead
Hold your hand
As you travel
To the Promised Land.

Thro’ fire and water
You may go
And hard times
Make you low

BUT

 Take heed He will lead
Hold your hand
As you travel
To the Promised Land.

THE WAY OF HOLINESS

The Way of Holiness
Is a way of lowliness.
No longer me, myself and I
Self has to die!

The Way of Holiness
Is the way of a servant
The washing of feet
The dying to self
Is no mean defeat!

And yet at the same time
Myself, I must remind
The Way of Holiness
Leads to the Throne of God
And we must follow the path Jesus trod.

Many have walked the road before
Lovingly observing and obeying God’s laws.
Not because a big stick was waved
But because their hearts and minds were changed.

Sinners turned saints at the Cross
They gave up their old ways
But it wasn’t a loss.
Their hearts and minds
Were changed.

Miracles took place
There was a state of grace
The world
Became a better place
But also serious opposition began
There was a call to make a stand.

Hatred and persecution
Raised their ugly heads
But this meant
It was time
For greater love instead.

Love, unity
And a faith that’s strong
Have helped to fight
A battle that’s long
BUT
The greater the darkness
The brighter the Light
The greater the hate
The more abundant the love.

THE WEAPON CALLED LOVE

THE WIDE ROAD

Beware of the wide road
Tempting when you have a heavy load
You’re tired and stressed
And feel you need to rest.

Beware of the wide road
As heavier becomes your load
Don’t think, “what can I lose?
The wide road I will choose.”

The wide road
Will not lead us to Him
The wide road
Will not release us from sin.

The wide road
Brings tears and increased sorrow
The wide road
Won’t bring us a new tomorrow.

Salvation and freedom from our sins
Jesus came our souls to win.
Our burdens are released at the cross
That’s the only way they can be lost.

THE WORD OF GOD

Nothing in this life lasts forever
But The Word of God
Will never, never fade.

The grass and flowers wither
Our bodies do not last forever
But The Word of God
Will never, never fade.

God’s Words are treasure
Their wealth can’t be measured
Wise counsel, encouragement, warnings
And much more
Given to those who are in spirit poor.

The seeker will find
There is much to delight
No turning left or right.
Onward, forward
Keeping truth in sight
Searching continually for the Light.

His words will comfort
His words will bless
His words will bring
Inner happiness.

TRAVELLERS ON THE HIGHWAY

Some walk alone
Some walk together
Some have come
To the end of their tether.

Some are rushing
Some are slow
Some aren’t sure
Which way to go.

Some are radiantly happy
Some are deeply afraid
Some are and always have been
Very, very staid.

Some go forward
Some go back
Some are on the grass verge
And have continually sat!

TURN BACK

Turn back, turn back
Turn away
From that which you do
You know it’s destroying you.
Your life is an empty shell
And it has become a living hell.

Everything seems to be sliding away
And are you prepared to pay?
Turn back, turn back
Before you reach
The point of no return
Now is the time to listen
And learn.

Until now
You couldn’t have cared less
You suffered too much stress
BUT
Suddenly you felt a glimmer of hope
No longer did you want
To continue down a slippery slope.

Turn back, turn back
And whatever you lack
God is there
He’ll comfort
Care
And provide
Giving you strength deep inside.

Turn back, turn back
Follow a different road
God will lift your heavy load.
He will forgive
If you come to Him
And free you from your sins.

His arms are open to receive
So please, please don’t leave
Your decision to turn back.
He knows the things you lack.
Start anew
God has a great love for you.

WELL DONE

  When the time comes
And
I stand
 Before God and His Son
I want
To hear the words
“Well done”
But
Will I deserve them?
Will I have earned them?
No
It’s by grace
Not
Works.

WHAT A FOOL!

We have freedom
To choose
But let’s not lose
Our sense of direction.

A man chose
To fill his barns.
He worked night
And day
And in the process
Lost his spiritual way!

He made his choice
He rejoiced
Bigger barns
He would build
And they would be filled!
What a fool!

He told himself
Now was the time
To take his ease
And to do
As he pleased.
What a fool!

BUT
God spoke
“Tonight you’ll die.”
He didn’t give the man
A chance to ask “why?”

The riches
The wealth
The man had to leave
This he hadn’t perceived.
What a fool!

Years of his life
Spent in getting
Now his sun
Was indeed setting.
What a fool!

Let’s make our lives
Rich in God
Rich in the Spirit
Not in the flesh.
This will be
Our biggest test!

Don’t let us be fools!

WHICH WAY?

Enter thro’
The narrow gate
The narrow way
On this path
You should stay.

Don’t enter thro’
The wide gate
The broad way
On this path
You shouldn’t stay.

IT WILL LEAD TO DESTRUCTION
AND CORRUPTION.

Seek and you will find
Your old life
You can leave behind.
Follow God’s path
And
You’ll find peace at last!

WISDOM

The wise
Arise
And take others
With them.

The wise
Arise
But also
Wait.

The wise
Arise
But
Serve and wash feet.

The wise
Not in worldly wisdom
Do not follow
An earthly system.

In the Spirit wise
In the Spirit alive
In the Spirit complete
In the Spirit released.

The following poem was written by our
grand daughter, Helen when aged 11 years.

If the world was a better place.”

If the world was a better place
Everyone would get along.
If the world was a better place
Then no one would be disgraced.
The world would be so clean
And not so mean to any human being.
There would not be so much litter
And the world would not be bitter.
Only if the world was a better place.

Thank you Helen.
